The 5,000-year-old discovery of glass fusion has mysterious roots in the era of the Phoenicians. Rare and difficult to produce, it was valued as a semi-precious replacement for colorful stone and gems used in architectural funerary and jewelry applications. Although fusing was eclipsed by mass production glass blowing only 2,000 years ago, it remains the rarest and most unusual glass forming skill.

In fusing, exact cut and layered glass designs are made before careful melting and “slumping” in Kurt’s own handmade molds. Fuming red-hot glass with vaporized metal creates rich surface iridescence. These durable, dishwasher-safe pieces are non-toxic and used in restaurants worldwide for appetizers, desserts, condiments and dinnerware. They are also decorative trays for jewelry, candy, soap, coasters, coins and versatile catch-alls. Kurt has engaged in all types of glass crafting for 21 years and originally hails from the State of Hawaii.
